In 1992, the founders of the Filipino American National Historical Society, the late, Dr. Fred Cordova and his wife, Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova first introduced the resolution to declare October as Filipino American History Month.
The month of October was chose to commemorate the very first Filipinos that came to America in October of 1587 via the Spanish Galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza that was apart of the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade era.
